Parent/Child Account Use Cases

You may find that you're asking yourself when you need to create a Parent/Child setup and when you don't. Please take a look at a few use cases we see that support the need for a Parent/Child setup.

Scenario 1:

A Financial Institution is banking with an MSO that has 10 dispensaries, which share 3 bank accounts among them. Each of these dispensaries reports its sales individually via a unique instance of their POS system. This arrangement involves one license with multiple locations attached. The layout in Green Check is as follows::

  • Holding Company Parent (Monitoring Reviews are created at the Parent Level)
    • Dispensary 1- Child account that is integrated with POS instance 1
    • Dispensary 2- Child account that is integrated with POS instance 2
    • Dispensary 3- Child account that is integrated with POS instance 3
    • Dispensary 4- Child account that is integrated with POS instance 4
    • Dispensary 5- Child account that is integrated with POS instance 5
    • Dispensary 6- Child account that is integrated with POS instance 6
    • Dispensary 7- Child account that is integrated with POS instance 7
    • Dispensary 8- Child account that is integrated with POS instance 8
    • Dispensary 9- Child account that is integrated with POS instance 9
    • Dispensary 10- Child account that is integrated with POS instance 10

Scenario 2:

A Financial Institution is banking with a fully vertical operation with a license that allows for a Dispensary, a Cultivation, and a Processing facility.  Each are separate entities that sell internally and externally to customers, and require sales to be reported for each business unit.  They each have their own bank account, so there are three separate bank accounts associated with the family. They lay out in Green Check is as follows:

  • Holding Company Parent (Monitoring Reviews are created at the Parent level)
    • Dispensary- Child that reports sales from POS
    • Cultivation- Child that reports sales from ITS business unit
    • Processor- Child that reports sales from ITS business unit

Keep in mind, the integrations for an organization's Point of Sale or Invoice Tracking System take place at the Child level.

Also note that you must stipulate whether the Parent/Child setup shares all associated bank accounts or does not share bank accounts upon creation.  They either all share the bank accounts, or don't.  You cannot have some shared and some not in the same family.
