Negative News in Green Check

Overview

The Negative News feature provides your financial institution with actionable insights about your CRBs, surfacing media and regulatory mentions that may indicate potential risk.

The sources for these insights span many sectors, including but not limited to media outlets, government authorities, licensing agencies, and securities regulators. Green Check’s system automatically reviews these source documents for key terms related to compliance or reputational concerns—such as fraud, violation or warning letters, and court actions—so your institution can stay informed of events that may influence banking decisions.

This feature was originally introduced as an email-only alert. With the latest update, you can now review, document, and manage all Negative News items directly inside the Green Check app, without needing to work from email links or external sources. Note that you will only see new alerts from this release moving forward and historic alerts will NOT appear in Green Check. View the FAQs below for more information.

⚡ Quick Start Guide

  1. Get notified — When new negative news is detected, Account Owners and Admins receive an email alert and a follow-up task.

  2. Go to the Negative News tab — Open the link from your email or be directed from the Tasks page to the specific alert in Accounts.

  3. Review the alert and collaborate — Read the article details, add comments, assign a risk level, or mark it as a false positive. Mark it as reviewed once you've completed your assessment.

  4. FAQs — Read frequently asked questions about this feature.

Receive an Alert and Task Assignment

When a new Negative News item is detected, Account Owners and Admins receive an email/in-app alert.

  • The email includes the CRB name and a direct link to the Negative News tab within the CRB’s account.

  • A corresponding task is automatically created in your Green Check Tasks area to ensure timely review. You must review the alert (Mark as reviewed) to close out the task. The due date will be 14 days from when the task is generated.

🔒 The article’s headline or description is no longer included in the email. Log in to view details securely inside Green Check.

Access the Negative News tab

Within Green Check, navigate to Accounts → Select the CRB → Negative News. The email, in-app alert, and task will all direct you to the specific alert.

Here, you’ll find a table displaying all related alerts for that CRB.

The table includes:

  • Headline — Summary of the article.

  • Date — Publication or detection date.

  • Source — Publisher or issuing authority.

  • Risk — Flag indicator showing Low, Medium, or High risk.

  • Review Status — Whether the item has been reviewed.

  • Reviewed By — User who completed the review.

If there are no alerts for the selected time range, you’ll see:

“All clear—no negative news found.”

Review the Alert and Collaborate

Once in the tab, click on a row to open the drawer detail view, where you can:

  • Read the article information (headline, date, source, URL).

  • Assign a risk level (Low, Medium, or High).

  • Add internal comments or discussion notes within the Comments widget.

    • Add notes, tag teammates, or create follow-up tasks directly from a comment.

    • Actions such as comments, most recent risk updates, or review notes are automatically captured for compliance tracking.

  • Report a False Positive if the item was incorrectly matched to your CRB.
  • Mark as Reviewed once your team has completed its review. This is how you officially complete the task that was assigned.

When marking an item as reviewed, a confirmation modal appears where you can add a note. Marking as reviewed is the final action you should take on the alert and closes out the task.

If marking as a false positive, a confirmation message will display:

“Reporting a false positive cannot be undone. You should still mark false positives as ‘reviewed’ for audit purposes.”

Tips for Your Team

  • ✅ Use the comments section to explain or document your review decisions.

  • 🏁 Close out tasks promptly to maintain compliance visibility.

  • 🧩 Actions are logged in the drawer for your institution’s records (who marked the alert as reviewed and who last assigned a risk rating).

Frequently Asked Questions

Who receives Negative News alerts?
Account Owners and Admins will be alerted and assigned this task.

Can I still receive Negative News by email?
The alert will still be sent by email, informing you that you have a new Negative News task to review. The details now live inside Green Check for review and documentation.

Why don’t I see the article headline or description in my email anymore?
Since the alerts can now be managed in Green Check, the full article details now appear only within the app in the new Negative News tab within the Accounts area.

What if I can’t access the article link in the app?
Some external sources (such as government portals) may require a login or restricted access.

What happens when I mark something as a false positive?
It will remain visible in your audit trail but will be visually differentiated in the Negative News tab. Marking false positives cannot be undone. You must still mark false positives as "reviewed" to capture your notes.

What powers this feature?
Negative News is made possible through Green Check’s integration with CRB Monitor. As long as a CRB’s license is linked to CRB Monitor, Green Check will automatically pull in relevant news items.

Can I adjust my email and in-app alerts?
Yes. You can always edit your notification settings (both email and in-app) by clicking the gear icon (⚙️) in the upper-right corner of the app. This particular notification is located under the Accounts portion of the page.

Why don’t I see older Negative News alerts in the app?

The Negative News section in Green Check only displays new alerts from January 1st, 2026 moving forward.

We intentionally did not backfill historical Negative News alerts from 2025 and earlier into the app because many of those items were already reviewed and resolved outside of Green Check. We did not want your team to have to rework tasks or repeat reviews that had already been completed.

All new Negative News alerts will appear in Green Check, where you can review them, assign risk, collaborate with your team, and maintain a full audit trail.
