Common Point of Sale Issues & How to Fix Them

Summarizes common issues you might experience in your POS data and links out to resources to help fix them

When sales appear as unverified in Green Check, it usually means something in your Point of Sale (POS) data does not match compliant reporting requirements. This article summarizes common issues that can trigger an “unverified” flag and links out to resources that can help you resolve them.

Issue What It Means

Purchase limit exceeded

The sale amount or product quantity exceeded the state purchase limit.

Sale made outside of allowed hours

The sale timestamp in your POS is outside of the hours permitted in your state.

Customer MMJ license expired

The MMJ license expiration date in your POS shows the license was expired at the time of sale. Even if the customer’s record was updated later, the sale itself occurred with an expired license.

Sale contained free marijuana product (not allowed)

A product’s unit price was $0 or discounted to $0, which is not allowed under state regulations.

Customer not of age to buy cannabis

Based on customer type (adult-use), the customer’s age is below the legal minimum for your state.

Sale missing required tax

An adult-use sale did not include tax, even though tax is required on all adult-use sales in your state.

Employee ID missing

In Connecticut, POS data must include an employee ID. This record did not supply it.

Invalid payment type

The POS shows a payment type not allowed in your state (often labeled as “credit” when it should be another payment type).

Forbidden product names

The sale included products with names disallowed in your state (to prevent marketing toward children).

✅ Tips

  • Always double-check that your POS integration is active.

  • If you're manually uploading, check your sales files before uploading to ensure headers, product info, and amounts are correct.

  • You might receive an Unverified Sales Questionnaire asking you to double check unverified sales to correct the issue. Learn more about that process here.
